Maintenance

I have seen several folks question the need of the dealerships to keep
machines overnight when performing routine service. Since the following is
true for the Daytona, I'm assuming it is true for the Sprint as well: tunes
can only be loaded to the engine in a certain temperature range. The
running speculation on the T5 list is that there is a bug in the software
(who would have guessed?) that was not found in development. Since
embedded, real-time systems can be used in development testing independently
of the target vehicle, this is not an unreasonable assumption. This
"feature" might not have been detected until tune downloads started to fail
out here in the users' world.

In any event, I'm sure dealerships have been amply notified of the problem
and only seek to insure the engine is at the proper temperature when loading
tunes. Viewing the diagnostics log and other read-only functions should not
be affected by engine temperature. However, if you are advised by someone
at your dealership that the bike needs to be trailered in to insure it's
cold, either ask to speak to a competent mechanic (as you may have a
salesperson or an accessory counter monkey on the phone) or find a another
place where you get reasonable answers to your questions.

In all cases, if you feel your crank is being yanked, contact the lovely
customer service people at ToA, (770)631-9500, newtricorp@xxxxxxxx If
you're looking for quick results, just remember what season we're in. I
have spoken to them on several occasions and they are serious, helpful, and
dedicated. Especially when your expectations are reasonable.

Crash (Motorcycle ownership is a mechanical journey. The less you know, the
more surprised you'll be.)
