 My Mom still lives in Monterey, so I spend a lot of time there,
although I now live in So. Calif.

 When you go to Z's leathers (really great leathers and even greater
people) you will be in the geographical center of motorcycle speed
and accessory shops (not to mention dealers) on the planet. It would
take you at least a year to visit all those just within 50 miles. 

 Spend your time in Monterey sightseeing; there are a couple dealers
and race shops but if you're going to be in So. Calif. anyway, you're
time would be better spent on other things. That said there is Mike
Corbin's shop (actually a factory now) in Hollister and in Berkely
there is a specialty shop named 'Mota' that sells only motorcycle
gear for women.

 Not to be missed by any motorcycle fan from back East is the weekly
Saturday night Costa Mesa speedway at the Orange County fairgrounds
just off the 405 Fwy. This is the last year for this 30 year old So.
Calif. tradition which will be going the way of Ascot this fall. 

 I'm in Dana Point, exactly half-way between L.A. and San Diego.
My garage includes three street bikes and my back yard includes some
of the prettiest riding in So. Cal.; bring your helmet and set aside
a day to ride a 200 mile loop through the hills, valleys, citrus
groves and horse ranches of So. Calif. I also know the good pubs!
