After much mention of squids in the forum, I decided to go back and see if
there are any theoretical references to squids and found the following (much
is paraphrased and/or shortened due to the length and complexity of the math
behind the theories:

The Nyquist Theory of Absolute Squiddism:
This is the first known reference. It states that

SQa is an absolute when X/Y >1

where SQa is Absolute Squiddism as a value greater or less than 1 and
X=Horsepower and Y=Intelligence Quotient

The Einstein Theory of Relative Squiddism:
This is a furthering of the above work which proves that squiddism has a
relative factor. It allows for Absolute Squiddism, but also states that:

SQr=X/Y

where SQr is Relative Squiddism and X=Horsepower and Y=Intelligence Quotient

He also postulated the following corallary:

Le=2/SQrª

where Le is Life Expectancy expressed in years remaining and SQr is Relative
Squiddism

As the value of Squiddism approaches 1, the Life Expectancy approaches the
value of 2 years. As the value of Squiddism approches infinity, Life
Expectancy approaches 0

I also found a small reference to Squids in a Dungeons and Dragons book:

    The Squid is a beast with extremely high speed and maneuverability, but
low intelligence, low hit points, low experience and low offensive
capability. The Squid is largely dismissed as an endangered species with
little danger to an average warrior. In fact, because of its high speed,
low armor and low hit probability, Squids are primarily a danger to
themselves and their mates, although Squids accidentally kill themselves at
a ratio of more than 10 to 1 over their mates. The breed is largely alive
due to a male creature called the "High School Student" which can morph into
a Squid, thereby continuing the species as Squids rarely live to reproduce.
The Squid's only serious offensive capability is the "Crash" during which
the Squid rams its opponent, primarily a creature called the "Car".
However, the Crash is almost always fatal to the Squid and rarely does more
than a few hit points of damage to the Car. Although Squids have been known
to use the Crash against a related and more vulnerable species called the
"Enthusiast", most Enthusiasts simply avoid the Squid as a defensive
maneuver.
    The more serious danger to the Enthusiast is a Squid's only other
offensive capability which is a rudimentary magic spell called the "Pass"
which causes the Enthusiast to behave as a Squid for a small, but dangerous
period of time which can cause the nearly always fatal Crash. The Pass
decreases intelligence and increases speed for the duration of the spell.
Italian Enthusiasts are very vulnerable to the Pass while American and
German Enthusiasts are virtually invulnerable due to a defense called the
"Leather Jacket of Indifference". The Pass is most effective against other
Squids or Japanese Enthusiasts. However, a new breed of Enthusiast called
the "Buell" is as vulnerable as Italian Enthusiasts to the Pass.
