Of course being a salesperson they also would have told you that they had a
terrible customer service record, stocked only the minimum amount of parts,
didn't send their techs to any training and refused to carry the full line
of motorcycles offered. Not saying that any or all of these applied to your
dealer, but it has been my experience that Triumph does not pull franchises
from dealerships that are enthusiastic about the line. They will however
work to get dealers out of the network that are not doing the job on a
consistent basis.

Shouldn't be that long a wait at this point. Triumph of America finally
received several containers of parts that had been delayed. That caused
many of the delays on the parts orders that you have read about recently.
Triumph knows that this was a problem, and I can only hope that they have
taken steps to insure that this type of shipping problem does not happen in
the future.

I've got a 99 and while I had a few problems early on with the fuel sender,
the problems went away and it now functions perfectly. Triumph knew it was
a problem, but had nothing to replace it with. I'm not sure what you wanted
them to do ? Stop selling the ST's ? I personally could care less about the
fuel gauge - I still rely more on the odometer anyway. I say pull it and
give me two trip meters like the RS. The new one as you have read seems to
have a problem stemming from installation. Hopefully the ones that have
been recently installed with more care to protecting the sensor wires will
prove to be reliable and non-leaking.

Just remember that others have the opposite experience. I've had many
problems with Japanese bikes, and American bikes and Italian bikes and even
a few with British bikes........ But I realize that they are still built by
humans (for the most part) and like anything mechanical, they will have
problems from time to time. Sometimes the are at the worst possible moment
(2 am in the rain, 100 miles from nowhere), but as long as the problem
doesn't threaten my life, I can usually chuckle about it later.

Also remember as someone else pointed out, that typically on the list, you
hear about the problems. You don't see too many "I've got 10,000 miles and
no problems" posts. You see 4 or 5 emails on a subject and think to
yourself "wow, this is a big problem" until you look at the big picture. We
currently have about 300 ST and RS owners on the list and another 150-200
lurkers..... when you see 150 posts on a problem, then it is a REAL problem.

I have fount that a good dealer will be a big part of your overall
enjoyment of your bike - I think you will find the people that are happiest
on the list have good dealers backing them up. Any chance of finding a
"better" one near you ?
