yesterday i wrote about issues with adding the ST bars on top
of the gen-mar risers. i won't repeat it all here. but there's
one more:
fourth issue: i decided that the brake line, although not
"stretched" at full fork extension, was tight enough that
i wasn't comfortable leaving it as is. the good news
is that it, too, can be re-routed. in the stock configuration,
the brake line takes a turn around the right fork leg --
it comes up from the caliper, goes between the fork tubes,
and then up to the bars. by removing the lever and fluid
reservoir from the handlebar (unscrew the brake lever switch
from the bottom of the control first), and carefully feeding
them both down through the fairing, and back up, you can move
the line so that it stays to the outside of the fork tubes
the whole way. don't kink the brake line while doing this,
and be gentle -- you really don't want the fluid reservoir
or the connection to it to open up somehow while you're doing
this. moving the line outside the fork tubes leaves plenty of
slack. be sure and go under the speedometer sender wiring
down at the bottom end, so that the two brake lines and that
wire lie neatly together. and at the top, leave the brake
line to the outside of the electrical bundle coming from the
right side switchgear -- that part of the wiring harness is
very close to too short, and it should have as much clearance
as possible at full right lock.
i also wanted to add: i had thought that if this combination of
risers didn't work out, i could then try the helibars -- but i
think that this may be the limit, without starting to run into
the limits of the length of the electrical harness.
