Powdercoating

I've spent some time investigating powdercoating vs polishing wheels. There is literally probably every imaginable finish available in powercoating running the gamut from textured finishes, to solid colors with sparkles, to metallic, to transparent. The look of polished aluminum/chrome can be achieved via powdercoating. With polishing the disadvantage is that there's a fair amount of routine maintenance necessary to maintain it, with powdercoating, the disadvantage is that over time, road debris will take its toll, and it will eventually need to be redone. Polished wheels can be sealed with a clear powdercoat with minimal degradation to the shine, but its a bit more tricky than colors. So if you go that route, make sure you go with a shop that is experienced with working with clearcoats. Powdercoating is pretty cheap, I've received quotes as low as $40 to as much $125 per wheel.
