RE: to each his/her own

Ken,
I wasn't looking for more "snap", but more useable 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears in
low speed traffic (which is the norm on the highly congested roads around
here). And look at the numbers; with standard 43/19 gearing, rpm at 75mph
is about 4400 in 6th. With 43/17 at 75mph it's about 5000 not 7500. Not
that much of a difference, but enough (it seems to me) to make the lower
ratios more useable in traffic. The improved acceleration is just a nice
bonus!

Disclaimer: The example of 75mph is purely hypothetical. That exceeds the
speed limits on all the roads in these parts, and I would NEVER do something
like that :-)

Personally I don't get lowering the gearing for more snap. The ST is a
sports *touring* bike. Who wants to tour at 7,500 rpms at 75mph? Seems you

guyz woulda been better off getting a 600F4, they are geared that way
*stock*! But to each their own.
