Re: Triumph engine design

I wonder if Honda have noticed this? For sales in the 900 sport touring class the ST is certainly eating a big chunk of their VFR market share, even if they do produce 25,000 scooters (mopeds) each day. In several countries the ST has sold more units than the VFR I think, at least in '99.
I bet they are thinking of bringing out a 900cc version of the VFR, but from what I read it doesn't seem they can make any profit if selling a complex V4 for less than the price of the triples.
I noticed that many of the bike mags (eg BiKE) which rated the ST above the VFR in their tests in 99 now place it behind the VFR, despite the bikes being identical in 2000 model form. Just fashion I guess?
Just a few thoughts....

ps. wont be riding January to April following a knee-ligament replacement, but I will keep reading the list, as I am sure it will help motivate for a full and speedy recovery! Keep up all those interesting posts :)

As a result, Triumph are able to produce brilliant bike designs, over
and over again, despite being so small that Honda exceed their annual
production in a single morning!

They can subcontract their R&D to the best engineers in the world.
