That's exactly what they were doing.  The same review was aired on the
Motorcyclist show on Speedvision recently (last week I think).  Early on
they emphasized the fact that the sports touring class is difficult to
define at best.  Disagreement on that definition is permitted of course, but
I think most would agree that how well any given motorcycle meets the sports
tourer model (no matter who's you use), is highly subjective.  These bikes
were deliberately chosen for the review because collectively they represent
a wide range of motorcycle types, not because these bikes were the ones that
most closely matched their model of a sports tourer.  The intent overall was
to stimulate thought and discussion rather than to pass judgement.   Looks
to me like it was successful.
