    In a similar discussion on another list, one of the participants
voiced the opinion that there's not much point in lowering the gearing
on a road bike unless first gear is too low.  If you want lower gearing, 
change down a gear.

    It will move your shift points to different speeds, which you may
find more suited to your style.  And fuel economy will suffer.

    YMMV.
