As a professional brewer, I can comment on motorcycle transport of kegs. A
full standard American keg (known as a half barrel) contains 15.5 gallons of
beer and weighs almost 160 pounds. I have never attempted to carry one of
those on a motorcycle. However, I have carried many smaller kegs -- mainly
5 gallon kegs and 7.75 gallon kegs (pony kegs or quarter barrels). All of
these I strap to the seat behind me. The largest beer vessel I have carried
on the ST is a full firkin (9 imperial gallons or 10.8 US gallons) A firkin
is technically known as a cask (not a keg). I find the English motorcycle is
well suited to transport English style ales.
