Get a nut that's bigger then the diameter of the pin. Place it over the pin
and plate. Squeeze it with a pair of Vice Grips, a little on side and then
the other until it's fully seated (the link plate). You'll have to tighten
the adjusting screw on the vice grips a wee bit each time after you begin
squeezing. You're squeezing the whole link...one jaw on the opposite side,
and the other jaw pressing against the nut, pressing the pin through the
outer plate..

It's simpler then I've made it sound.

Then install the clip. Roundy end towards the direction of chain
rotation/travel. Upper
