[ST] Brake problems

Can anybody help me?

At the weekend I fitted new pads up front to the RS.

It's a job I've done before on Hondas so I did it with no manual. I
unscrewed the retaining pin and pulled the spring and the old pads each side
(worn almost to the bottom of the wear grooves at 8500 miles). I loosened
the reservoir cover and wrapped a cloth round it, then *gently* levered the
pistons further apart to get the new pads in. The reservoir level rose but
did not overflow. In went the new pads, back went the retaining pins and
clips. A few squeezes on the lever to take up play and all felt well. Rather
than siphon out the excess fluid I bled each side, just two pumps each, to
bring the level back down. I didn't see any bubbles. Put the lid back on,
double-checked all was tight everywhere, squeezed a couple more times (I
could see both pairs of pads were moving), so took it for a careful spin.
All seemed well. Good in fact - very little spare movement on the lever,
then biting hard. Great.

Today I used it for work. 30 miles in to work, no problems, brakes felt
stand-on-your-nose great. Tried a few hard stops to check it out. Back from
work tonight also great, right up until about 25 miles, then oh oh! Suddenly
more play before biting, and spongier. Rapidly getting worse. Carefully ran
the last 5 miles home on the back brake only. By the time I got home I had
NO front brakes. Just soft sponge.

There's no sign of any leaks. The right hand pads aren't moving at all now,
and only the inner left shows any signs of feeble response to the lever. I
bled both sides again in case I had some kind of airlock, but no change. The
master cylinder maybe making a new kind of squishy bubbly sound (like a seal
has gone?), or maybe it always did that and I've just noticed.

Any bright ideas anyone?

Barry :-(
