Bill,
RE the mic on the radio unit: yes I have noticed that it is hot as
well, but did you notice that you can hear your tapping even when you
are not transmitting? I can hear that mic all the time in my headset.
Kinda silly.
RE parts: order the parts straight from Chatterbox: 888-452-2269.
$9.95 for the "mini-cord" plus shipping.
RE antenna location: my antenna is mounted so that the coil is just
above the luggage rack, which I think is ok (its gonna have to be).
You're right about anything in the envelope affecting the SWR. As a
matter of fact, I think I remember the low power transmission giving me
better results on that meter as well. Does your unit break up its
transmission if you turn the volume up to 5 or higher? I cannot turn my
volume up when transmitting as it gets all broken up for some reason.
Problem solved if I turn the volume down. Seems like another flaw.
In the mean time, I think I'm gonna plug up that built in mic and see if
that cleans up the noise.
Thanks,
Jonathan West, 2 Dawgs
