If we are to believe this is every LD riders opinion of their fellow riders,
then it would explain why so many of them live solitary lives.  He was being
polite by explaining his actions.  Motorcyclist shouldn't ignore one another
at a gas station just because there's a chance one is doing their SS1000 or
whatever.  Remember motorcycling is an extended family, don't ignore your
cousins, at least without explination :)

Politely but firmly rebuffing gas station chatters is just a part of doing
an endurance ride. If the fellow didn't understand this, it was his lapse of
etiquette, not yours.
