Re: [ST] GSG MOKO

It's a five minute job.

Tools required: Allen Keys, Torque Wrench. Socket Set with ratchet wrench.
Extension bars. Torx Bit. Preferably a swivel thingy for altering the
angle of the
socket (I didn't have one and still managed it). Due to the very high
torque involved it would be inadvisable to use an open ended wrench.

Firstly, u do not need to remove the fairings for installation providing
that you can get 5 minutes of adult assistance and a little patience. You
do not need to and should not tamper with the Engine Mounting Adjuster
Locknut located behind the engine mounting bolt and in any case you
would need a special tool to do so.

After looking at the situation, I removed the top engine mounting bolts ONE
AT A TIME and
replaced them with the corresponding slider bolt before moving on to the
next bolt.

Removal of the engine bolt is fairly straightforward with a torx bit (mine
has CR-MV 55 on it which I assume is the size) attached to a short extension
on your torque wrench. Get your assistant to hold onto the torque wrench
over the bolt. Then from the opposite side of the bike get down on your
knees as you have to look through the bike so as to be able to place a
socket onto the nut at the rear of the corresponding bolt using a long
extension and attached to a ratchet wrench. A fair bit of
grunt is required by the person holding the torque wrench to undo the bolt.
Ensure that you capture the nut from the rear, otherwise like me you will
have to go fiddling around the bottom of the fairing trying to retrieve it!

Being careful that you use the correct bolt for the side of bike to be
fitted (i.e. longer bolt for right slider), seperate the black slider from
it's bolt by undoing the three allen key bolts and place them and the slider
to one side.

Insert the replacement Slider bolt through the engine mounting ensuring that
any washers supplied are attached (I can't remember), now for the
tricky bit, placing the nut onto the rear of the new bolt. I found that I
did a combination of fiddling with the nut either in my hand or pre-inserted
into a socket with a long extention bar until I caught the thread correctly.
Then it's simply a case of you or your assistant torqueing up the bolt
whilst the socket set holds the nut in place. GSG Moko say torque to 85
newton metres or 62.5 foot pounds.

Repeat for opposite side.

Place sliders onto new bolt with the three allan key bolts provided using a
6mm allan key.

Job done and it looks pretty good too as though they were meant to be there
in the first place. When u look at them both from the rear of the bike,
they should each protrude an equal distance. If not, then I would suggest
that you will have to go through it all again as u have placed the bolts
through the wrong side !

Good Luck

I just received my frame sliders from Liley's today. A few questions to
help in the istallation (worth a beer at the eastern rallye).

Obviously the go into the forward engine mounts. What size and type is the
tool needed to remove the existing bolts?

Do you use a regular open end wrench to install them?

How much torque and how do you measure it if using a wrench?

Do I have to remove the fairings to do the installation?
