Trip Report

Well, I took my new (to me) RS on a real test drive this week end. My
mother had her 70th birthday party this weekend. Normally not a problem
but she lives in Michigan and I live in Alabama. The kids are in school
and so I decided to use this as an excuse to take off by myself on the bike
for the weekend.

I left Thursday night after work and rode up to just short of Indy that
night. I can't brag about any great roads. I had distance to cover so I
had to slab side it the whole way. Still, just to feel the wind for six
hours straight is quite a rush. I rigged a CB with a helmet microphone so
I could talk to the truckers on the way and keep track of the "bears". The
Triumph soft bags worked great. Nary a wiggle or loose strap the whole
way.

Got up early the next morning and finished the 2nd half of the ride up to
my Mom's place. Sore butt from sitting and a sore face from grinning, but
other than that no problems the whole way. Good weather the whole time.

Everyone at the party loved the bike. Even the Harley riders in the family
had good things to say about it.

Sunday I packed up and started the return trip. Zipped down to just short
of Kentucky. Decided to stop when I saw lighting ahead of me and heard a
trucker talking about getting hit by lighting while on the road. Got up
early to beat the rush hour traffic through Louisville the next
morning. Did get a little wet just South of Nashville, my $10 Wal-Mart
rain suit worked pretty well. A little got in around my hands but that was
the fault of the gloves, not the rain suit.

Received complements on the bike during the whole ride. At almost every
fuel stop, people came up to say something nice. I am doubly happy on my
choice in motorcycles.

Regards,

John
