[ST] Darwin's Cornering clearances

Just wanted to bring up a dead horse here, since its been nagging at me for a bit.

A couple weeks back, there was a brief discussion about the RS's cornering clearances, including a bit of snippy back and forth that I won't bother to visit. What caught my attention was Darwin's less than charitable assessment of the cornering, since when he was out on a "spirited ride" with a group of cronies, he was running out of cornering clearance and none of the others riders were. Now, first I'd like to say that DH clearly could outride me, because cornering clearance is NOT an issue with me, probably wouldn't be on a Hog at this stage! That's my disclaimer: pretty much everybody on this list can outride me.

What's bothered me is this: DH was comparing the cornering clearance of the RS, an inline triple sportbike, with the cornering clearance of (correct me if I'm wrong here), a Ducati, Aprilia Mille, Honda RC-51, and a Superhawk. I may have mistaken a bike or two, but here's my point:

Every one of the other bikes he was riding with was a V-Twin superbike. Absolute, dedicated sportbikes. Every one of them has higher pegs, lower bars, and a narrower engine/frame than the Sprints. The RS is a SportBike, whereas those others are SPORTbikes. While we all know that the one place Triumph could really improve the Sprints is in the suspension, suspension is NOT the sole culprit in this case. DH was running the Sprint with the quick dogs, canyon carvers/track tools built for a few hours of dedicated use. Them dogs may be quick, you may be able to lean them waaaaaaaaaay over, but they don't have long legs like a True Dawg. The designer's intent with the RS was not the same as those V-Twins, so regardless of how you slice it, you can show either the Sprint or all of those V-Twins in a bad light. (Fer instance, the only way you can get 200 miles out of a tank with a Superhawk is to trailer it for 100!)

Well, hopefully I can let this horse go now.
