RE: [ST] Garmin GPS deal?

It could be the III+, with the V out most dealers are trying to sell the
III+ at low prices, although the lowest I have seen is $250, $199 doesn't
seem out of line. Make sure it comes with the data cord, antennae and all
the other nit nacks. I have heard of some dealers opening the boxes and
selling it all separately.

if this is really the III, and not the III+, then hasn't it been
discontinued by Garmin? someone must be selling old stock. the
difference is that in addition to the basemap (which they both have),
the III+ can be downloaded with detailed maps of a specific area -- the
III cannot. that being said, i've toured for a good 20K or 30K miles
with my III, and have almost never wanted the more detailed maps. the
combination of built-in basemap, plus the paper map you'll have with you
anyway, is just fine.
