Do case protectors help any in a fall?

I saw the Case Protectors at
http://www.triumphnet.com/st/acc/sargent/index.htm and was wondering if
anyone would know how well having them prevents scuffing to the bag, like if
for instance I made a bad error in judgment backing up down a hill and ended
up dropping the bike at 0mph.

just curious...
