This has been discussed on the list before. Take a look at:

I found this to be the root cause for the Mushy brakes on my 2000 ST. After
I pulled the calipers, cleaned the pistons, pushed the pistons back, and
pumped the brakes back up - I no longer had the problem.
I can see how the master cylinder might get starved, but only if you had a
low fluid level in the reservoir. But if raising the reservoir worked for
you.....
