but you know, the more i think about it, i doubt it's the height.
most bikes have reservoirs that sit right on top of the cylinder --
they're actually one unit.

i think that when the Sprint brakes get mushy that there's probably
air in that little tube, and the cylinder can't fill properly because
of it.  that would explain why the problem is intermittent, and why
it goes away when you do any of a number of things to your bike in an
attempt to fix it.  i'll bet just detaching the reservoir, raising it
to straighten the hose, and pumping, would fix the problem most of the
time.  maybe even just tipping the bike (in a controlled fashion :-)
in the right direction.
