Flat Battery/Headlight Relays

I suspect this has been done to death but I thought it may be of some use to
any new RS owners.
When I bought my new RS about 750 miles ago there was a thread running about
the EU directive regarding single headlamp operation and how to overcome it.
It seemed all that was required was a easily bought relay which could be
easily fitted. I was feeling smug because my dealer fitted it without me
asking as part of the PDI.
However because the weather was pretty good and I wanted to get the engine
run in ASAP I took the bike out nearly every day for the first 600 miles and
no problem. BUT when the weather turned nasty and I left the bike for three
or four days when I went to start it the battery was flat ! Re-charged it
and took it into the dealer the next day. He couldn't find a problem and
assumed it was a duff battery so changed it. I left the bike another three
days, went to start it, flat again! At this point he came and picked it up
to take another look.
Being a "good" lister I searched the archive before bothering you all. Under
"flat battery" there was the thread about the problem with headlight relays
remaining live and draining the battery over two to three days. Duly
reported this to the dealer( he should have paid me for the info) and when I
went to pick it up he admitted that he had fitted the wrong relay.
Apparently there are two that look basically the same but the one you need
has to have a resistor and diode in it. I couldn't find that solution in the
archive hence this rather long post.
