David,

I think it is truly the kink that is the culprit.  All the things you
mentioned, stiffer hose, shorter if it is routed correctly etc.. One of the
guys  here on the mailing list fabricated a stainless tube replacement.  I
found on my '00 that the hose also was twisted exacerbating the kink.  Check
for the twist as well.  Relieving the twist completely eliminated the kink.
