Re: [ST] New Daytona ( pre load)

I'll add my two cents worth on the pre load issue. Percentage of
travel is what one wants to address not just the amount of sag. On
the ST and RS the rear has 120mm of total travel. The front has 127mm
of total travel. The recommendation from all sources I've read are
25% to one third of travel. Now I think one third or 33% is more
towards the soft end of things and 25% is a bit stiff. I've been
splitting the difference and setting it at about 34mm of total sag
front and rear with me on the bike. Keep in mind that the stock ST
and RS rear shock does not allow for separate compression adjustment
so we need to use the spring pre load as a sort of gross compression
adjustment. The other thing to keep in mind with suspension setup for
the street is not to trade or confuse compliance for too soft. I
find it really difficult to ride a bike that's setup HARD. I want the
suspension to soak up bumps, and not to transfer the energy to the
chassis. It's a lot easier to go fast if the suspension is keeping
everything on an even keel. Ever watch the race bikes.. see how the
riders and bikes seem to stay relatively smooth
well they are it's the suspension working, soaking up the bumps..
compliance with control is the elusive goal.
