[ST] HID Lighting - Digest #117

>My car has them and all I can say is once you've used them, you
>are COMPLETELY spoiled. The light quality is incredible (very white)
>and uniform (although the latter is probably due to the reflector
>design). - Mark Collett

Personally, I DETEST the new lighting systems. Mind you, I have never
driven a car with HID lighting, but I have been BLINDED numerous times by
them. Something that is being forgotten in this quest for better lighting
is that other folks share the road! I realize that some people are
practically nightblind, and the extra lighting helps them. However, others
of us ate our carrots as kids, and aside from having long floppy ears, we
also have excellent night vision. This makes us very sensitive to mobile
searchlights. Add to it the propensity to mount these things in expensive
(and high) SUVs and I have on more than one occasion been tempted to pull
out a .45 and blow the crap out of somebody's lights! (Good thing I don't
HAVE a .45, eh?)

Simply put, these lights are not necessary on lighted roads, and on
unlighted roads the extreme brightness and contrast of these lights presents
as much hazard to other drivers as help to the user.

Rant off!

BikerDawg out.
