RE: Almost got my Sprint!

Hi Mike,

I have no doubt you will enjoy your new purchase once you receive it. The
thing that takes the longest time to install are the Top Box and Panniers.

One thing I would add to your accessories list is a rear hugger. This will
protect your rear shock from getting all gunk up and will make things a
little easier to keep clean.

I would also go for a BagLux Tank Cover and Tank bag instead of the Triumph
Tank Bag. It will protect your Tank from damage. The Triumph Tank bag straps
if not done up correctly can cause damage to the paint work.

Enjoy your Sprint and many happy journeys.

Chris

Subject: Almost got my Sprint!

Hello all!
Well my new favorite dealer (J.E.'s Honda in Hickory,NC) has "my" 2001
British Racing Green Sprint ST on the floor. Went to take a long look
at it this weekend (so what if we live 1.5 hours away, I like road
trips). VERY nice. I must say that I do like the silver wheels very
much, they complement every other metal-colored part of the bike. Just
had to sit and stare for awhile. The wife and I sat on it for awhile,
then we checked out the 3-bag setup on a Trophy. The increased luggage
capacity will come in very handy! We are looking forward to many trips
this year (especially in the summer) on the Triumph. BTW here's a list
of the accessories I'm getting with it, just couldn't resist opening up
the parts catalog and going nuts:

3-bag pannier setup
top rack (to go with above)
saddlebag liners
tank bag
back pad

and should I get the heated grips? Right now I say YES. I'm still on
the fence, but I'm leaning towards getting them. After riding Bill
Barkley's Sprint I wonder if I could go without them.

Good news also, I had been planning on replacing the stock tires with
Michelin Pilots right away. When the bike arrived they called me and
said that one of the tires was cut during shipping, so it will work out
anyway that I'm supplying my own tires. I'm told I'll get a good amount
of store credit for the tires (maybe get a cool paddock jacket).

So I hope to get it in the middle of January. Can't wait! But I've got
two questions:

1. When is break-in really over? I figure I should go to mineral oil at
600 miles (or whenever I'm supposed to change) and then to synthetic at
the next oil change. Do you folks use the Triumph 15w-50 Mobil-1 oil or
something different?

2. This subject may have been fully explored, but is the general
consensus on the RaceTech fork upgrade that it works well? I thought I
remember reading that their recommended settings are a bit off for some
folks. I've checked out the installation instructions on the website,
looks like I can handle it, but how much do the parts cost?

Thanks all, hope to join you soon,
Mark Collett
