Re: st-digest V2001 #7

<Keith Winter asked some stuff about Aux power adaptors for his GPS>

I fitted a GPS to my RS for a trip to Vegas last year. My initial plan
was to buy a Triumph aux power plug but that was scuppered when I tried
buying one 2 days before setting of and the dealer was out of stock.

Instead I lashed one together by soldering together a 12v power socket
(you can get them from radio shack for less than $5) and the cable
from a battery tender. I bolted this directly to the battery and taped
the socket to the tray under the back seat.
The advantage that the battery tender over a regular bit of wire was
that it already had ring terminal connectors to go on the battery and
an inline fuse.

Then it was just a case of running the Garmin power lead from the handle
bars, along the wiring loom under the fairing, back to the power socket.

It all worked a treat but the GPS wasn't all that much use once we got
over the Sierras.

turn left...Continue west for 2 hours...When you come to the only big
road..."
