Steve,

There's an extensive discussion of countersteering versus body
steering on the Club Demo bulletin board. Andy Burnett, who teaches
part time at CSS joined the discussion, and talked about the bike
Code built with two handlebars. The discussion is at:

http://www.clubdesmo.com/newBBS/messages/23/388.html?976489849

The following is one paragraph from Andy's contribution:

 >Recently, Keith Code brought a new training tool to the Superbike
 >School. It's a standard ZX-6R with a second handlebar mounted above
 >the first. This second handlebar is affixed to the frame of the bike
 >and doesn't turn. It has a throttle, so the rider can maintain or
 >adjust his speed. The bike lets the rider isolate his hands from the
 >handlebars to find out how much actual effect he can have on the
 >bike with his body. You might have to try this to believe it, but
 >riders couldn't get the bike to turn much at all. They would do
 >everything I described above and the bike mostly went dead straight.
 >It can't be overstated. The bike did practically nothing in response
 >to their efforts. I could get the bike to turn by hanging way off
 >and then pulling it over with the tanks and inside peg, but it was
 >difficult, imprecise and destabilized the bike because of all the
 >effort. All of this took place at about 25 mph. At higher speeds,
 >the rider's weight shifts had even less effect on the bike.

Read the entire thread when you have time. It is long, but entertaining.
