Re:chain cleaning
Keeping your chain clean and properly lubricated will increase the life
of the chain and sprockets.
NEVER clean your chain with a petroleum distillate ( gasoline, mineral
spirits, kerosene, etc.) This will strip the o-rings of lubrication and
trash the chain.
For what its worth this is the procedure I use:
1. Place newspaper between chain and left side of rear wheel
2. Rotate rear wheel and chain and spray clean with WD-40, CRC5-56 etc.(
the newspaper will catch all the cleaner and keep it off the rear wheel
and your garage floor)
3. Use a soft rag and rotate the chain to wipe off the excess cleaner.
4. Contrary to popular belief WD-40 is not really a lubricant but a
penetrating solvent, so after the excess is cleaned off the chain, come
back with whatever you use and oil the chain ( chain wax, teflon
spray(tri-flo) etc.
Hope this was helpful.
