Motorcycle Ambulance

Since we're talking about heath insurance and how motorcycles are viewed, I've got a related question that I've been wondering about: Doesn't the UK use motorcycles as paramedic/emergency response vehicles? I seem to remember seeing a picture of one in a bike mag a while back... 
In what capacity do these vehicles serve (ie. they can't carry patients, so under what circumstances are they dispatched, what services do they perform)?
