Re: Tour of your fuel pump circuit aka Update on Sprint RS not starting

Hi Don,

Seems like a Lucas electrician was on the assembly detail for your RS.

The first question that comes to mind is "are the battery terminals
tight, especially the ground?". I've seen that a couple of time on other

bikes. A Triumph engine failure light would come on for 55 different
fault conditions.A few don't apply due to market configuration (O2
sensor). The book says they will clear after 3 complete warm up cycles.
SO stay 'til they are reset.

If the dealer doesn't find codes stored in the ECM, then I'm going to
put a beer on it being a bad ground. There are many other connections
that could result in intermittant run conditions. The give away is that

when it is making the connection it works. Even if the grounds look
good, they need to be dissassembled the put back together to check them,

eyeball method isn't good for that. Then every wire to every relay that
is involved needs to be checked, both electrically and mechanically.
Electrical problems are the worst for eating up time, It either is
blatently obvious whats wrong or you have to dig...and dig....and dig.

I hope the dealer mechanic can go beyond hooking up the gameboy and
really dig into the bike one on one. Fuel injection is more complicated
than carburation, but I (personally) find it easier to chase electrons
than unseen fuel circuits in aluminium bodies. Where are you located?

I am really curious, please keep me informed.

Peace,
Andrew
