Re: Ohlins
I have James. Earlier this year Parts Unlimited screamed bloody
murder because Wim Kroon was selling Ohlins direct to US customers
for LESS than US dealer cost! Last time I checked Kroon was asked
NOT to ship to US customers anymore. That may have changed.. I'd try
ordering, see what happens. If they still won't ship to the US I'd
suggest that maybe they'll ship to a Canadian address . Maybe we have
a "Dawg" that's in the great white north who'd forward it on to you.
It'll be a bit of work but I saved close to $400.00 on my shock
buying it from Kroon! Just make sure to order it with the correct
weight spring for your weight, if you don't and have to change out
the spring it'll cost you about $150.00 for a new spring. What you
need to do is find out what the standard weight spring is, for the RS
shock. The standard spring for the ST shock is 14kg. A 14kg spring is
good for a rider up to about 185lbs. I weight 200lbs plus my bike has
the hard bags which I leave on all the time. The bags and mounts add
about 30lbs to the bike so I ordered mine with a 15kg spring. Since
the RS has no provision for hard bags I'd prolly stick with the shock
weight spring assuming that you weigh between 175-190 lbs. Petterson
Pro Suspension, and certainly Wim Kroon will be able to tell you what
spring the shock is shipped with. FWIW I can't emphasize enough how
important the correct spring is to getting the shock ( hell all
suspension) to work right.
