The Perfect ST-- My Dream

I've been giving this some thought lately and I think one reason
Triumph is not selling as many bikes in the US as they could is lack
of press and lack of new stuff. You see the Asian makers and
especially Harley have it figured out.. They bring out numerous new
or very slightly improved or changed models every year.. Why, cause
it gets the press hot so they write about it, it makes people want
to buy the new improved model, it sells bikes! So with that in mind
here's what I think Triumph should do: Offer an upgraded Sprint ST we
can call it the Sprint STi, or Sprint STS, or Sprint SS, for lack of
better nomenclature. This is what it'll be: The current model as it
is now with the Daytona motor, not de-tuned by a straight swap .. an
ST with 130hp! Next give it the Daytona's fully adjustable cartridge
front forks, ( maybe with a sleeker front fender, and maybe in carbon
fibre) and a fully adjustable rear shock. Next a set of six piston
brake calipers (these could be optional, the brakes now are real
sweet, but six piston units have great marketing sizzle) Then paint
it black. I'd like to see a black bike with gold colored wheels and
frame to match with special gold graphics ( shades of a John Player
Special :-) Or maybe silver with the titanium colored 01 wheels and
frame to match! This could be a special edition model say limited to
500 units maybe a special little numbered plaque on the dash. The
price, how about an increase of say $1500.00 over the cost of a
standard ST.. $12,199.00 retail .. add the hard bags ( Retail
$12,999.00) and you now have a bike that'll eat the BMW K1200RS for
lunch for $4,000 less, walk away from the new Aprilia Futura, and
totally waste a Ducati ST-4 !!! What do you all think?? Think it
would sell?? Think the press would love it, think Triumph would make
$$ . I'll bet they'd be sold out in a week. The ultimate SPORT
touring bike!
Erik
PS: And the best thing from Triumphs point of view and the reason to
do it, would be almost zero $$ in development costs.. They have all
the stuff just sitting there ready to go.
