Last fall Kenny Stewart posted the following information:

"FYI - all Sprints commencing with VIN 100047 are now fitted standard with a
steel shift linkage rod.  The PN is T2080598 and MSRP $16 US.  It is not
necessary to machine your own!

This information was communicated to US dealers in Triumph Parts News
Jan/Feb
2000 edition."

It may not be stainless (and maybe it is), but at least it will be much
stronger.
