My .02 No oil above 10 wt is a EC Energy Conserving oil. The EC rating has more
to do with weight than additive packages. The API rating is the additive or grade
or quality of oil, i.e.: SG, SH, SJ etc. BTW starting July 1, 2001 all new oil
manufactured that wants the highest API grade available will carry the NEW grade
of SL. (Don't quote me on the L, it might be I, I can't remember) This is why all
newer cars recommend 5w-30 or even 5w-20, the oil is thinner and causes less drag
= more gas mileage. The Honda hybrid calls for 0w-20, but the S2000 calls for
10w-30. Gas mileage is not a concern in a 240 hp sports car that has a production
of 25,000 per year, but engine protection is, at a redline of 9000 rpm.
I my self use Mobil 1 15w-50 API SJ in both my ST and my XR-440R. I have never had
any problems with either clutch.
