[ST] Tips on fabricating parts

This is just a note to pass along from experience.

I work in a shop that custom fabricates scenery and
display. That means anything from electro mechanical
widgets & gizmos to giant 3-D rock face backdrops, so
I am always making little brackets & mounting hardware
from scratch. The "Bible" of my business is "McMaster
Carr" if you are not familiar with it check out their
web site at www.mcmastercarr.com. Any hardware you
need: Metric, plastic, stainless, fully threaded,
etc. etc. is available in large or small quantities.

You can also purchase from them in small (or large)
quantities High Density Polyethelyne (what they make
plastic cutting boards out of). It comes in sheet,
rod, bar & tubing, It is the miracle cure for any type
of part fabrication. Machines very easily with
woodworking tools etc. and won't harm metal finishes.
You can thread it, tap it, route it, (can't paint it)
it even washes your car & walks your dog.

Think of them as Graingers on Steroids. If you can
get a catalog (almost impossible as an individual but
easier if from your company) you will be amazed at the
selection of things that can make custom fitting parts
to your bike easier.

This is not by any means the only place to get these
things but for one stop shopping it can't be beat.
