Sorry, I didn't mean to imply that it did, but it matters to the overall
performance and clarity of the transmission.  When you transmit, the RF
envelope forms from the loading coil to the tip of the antenna so if it is
low, it will be effectively "caged"...

As I noted I had best results in the cheekpad too, as it reduced the
amount of buffeting the mic picks up that goes on in the chin area.  

Have you noticed that during transmit, if you tap or scratch on the face
of the radio unit near the built in mic it's picked up?  A definite flaw
in design there.  

Also, we had best results running on the Low Power setting, still it was
hard to understand each other at red lights.
