RE: [ST] Dumb as a box of rocks!

Robert,

I don't quite understand what occurred from your description. Did he lock up
the front tire? If so, how the heck did he keep the bike upright? And what
exactly was the greasy 30' ess?

Just curious

I guess it is my turn to put myself up on the public pillory. Tonight, I
buzzed over to a buddy's house (on my ST) to discuss the itinerary for
tomorrow's outing to the Roxy Music concert at Northrup Auditorium in
Minneapolis (Minnesota, USA). My buddy owns my old 1978 BMW R100/7 and he
wanted me to ride it to see if the clutch slips (it does, but so what?). So
we went for a sideroad ride over the rolling Washington County countryside.
Well, I'm cruising along on his bike marveling at the comfort level and ease
of operation of 1978 BMW touring technology when my buddy jets by me on my
bike on the rolling, but straight country road. Sure enough, as he hits 70+
MPG (speed limit 50) he crests a hill and there is a county cop with his
lights going on the shoulder talking with a comely young lady. My buddy hits
the brakes and I see smoke and a big black greasy 30' ess behind my bike.
Luckily, he didn't attract attention from the cop and we rolled along by. I
gave him hand signals down the road "to keep it legal". However, when we get
back to his place and compare notes, it turns out that my buddy was smoking
the front tire, not the back as I supposed (the smoke obscured my vision).
There is a big shiny spot on the front sidewall. He also admits that the
braking power of the bike "scared him". Had I realized what had actually
transpired, I would have immediately got my bike back. Instead, I rode
merrily along for another 10+ miles on the beemer.
Too late to yell at him and then kill him. Yikes!

Regards,
Bob
