[ST] Rallye, June 17, Sunday

June 17, Sunday: Father's Day and Hollie gave me a nice card and the new
book "In Harm's Way" about the USS Indianapolis disaster. When I left
the room most riders had already left. We were in no hurry as we were to
start our family vacation moving to Ouray later today. Before he left I
offered my mirror to Jim again and he finally accepted. I know that
after riding a short while I wouldn't want to start a cross-country trip
without one. FYI, when I returned home a week later the mirror was on my
front porch. See, you can trust people. If, they ride a Triumph ST! we
wished Steve and Nicki well wishes as they pulled away but later found
them in the parking lot as Nicki had smelt and then seen gas pouring out
the bottom of the bike. I helped Steve remove the tailpiece and tank to
find a split gas line. Billie had remembered that there was an Auto Zone
in the middle of town so we took the truck and got a new line, replaced
it, connected way too many other lines, reinstalled the tank, and
checked it out. Steve and Nicki then headed home about and hour and  a
half later. I went to start Merlin to move her up front and the battery
was completely dead! Apparently, I had switched it to parking light,
hadn't noticed in the sun, and she drained down. Billie, Hollie, and I
took the truck and went over Friday's route to the chipmunk feeding area
on 92. I figured that after the side trip we could jump start Merlin and
go on the Ouray. After the trip we jumped the bike and as soon as the
lights on the panel lit up I knew she would start. I geared up and
headed off to Ouray with Billie and Hollie following. Right on the
outside of town I remembered the alarm remote and had no ideal where it
was. I missed that right mirror as I almost got ran over pulling over
only to find the remote in my pocket! After the scare we moved on to
Ouray and checked into the Box Canyon Lodge.
