Lisa,

I know what you mean about armour.  I was saved from a split knee cap when I
dropped the Sprint doing emergency brake on loose surface (to avoid a dog!)
at 20 mph in London, and landed on the knee.  Over here, Dainese do a rather
fetching mesh/armour outfit, which I've seen sported by cool young blades
around town over their T shirts. If you're into function rather than form,
or don't mind Mad Max chic, check them out.
