[ST] Reliability - Can we expect it?

"Then you should purchase a Honda Civic.

Let us not forget that motorcycles are high-performance recreational
vehicles. Owners of high-performance cars do not expect 100% reliability
because of the sensitive nature of these types of vehicles. "

??? Speak for your self! I DO expect reliability in my bike! Hey, it is a
logical and sound engineering assumption that the unknown-unknowns are
pretty well flushed out of this design and that this configuration (the T5
series) is an outgrowth of the T3 which borrowed some reliable design
solutions and improved on them (this should sound very familiar). So, we
SHOULD damn well better expect reliable products at this stage. Now, for
the people with the problem bikes, when you mass produce a product and
deliver several thousand units, the statistical probability of having
defects is very low due to design for manufacturing and manufacturing
technology - but it is not zero. Kind of like getting a reverse lottery
ticket. However, it does seem that most problems that linger are due more to
lack of experience and technical savy among dealers to sort out a problem
when they get one.

Try designing rocket engines that don't blow up after 10 flights. THAT is a
challenge.
