Anyway, can the JD/BMW plugs be opened up? I have just purchased a
Rider-to-Passenger intercom (Chatterbox HJC-40) which is designed to be
wired direct to the battery and which -apparently- doesn't have any sort of
in-line fuse (unless its in the 9v-3v transformer?), so I would prefer to
feed from the (fused) accessory socket.

Yes, the plug can be opened up. You actually have to on the BMW plug I
purchased to connect your wires. You connect your wires by inserting them
into posts and tightening a screw. It also has a nice strain relief. $9.95
