Fuel Sender

A  good friend of mine has a '99 ST that is now leaking fuel.  Not great 
amounts but enough that he can see it around the rear shock and on the 
swingarm.  The dealer has said that his bike is not covered by the recall 
and unfortunately his bike is also not out of warranty.
Therefore, he has two questions:

   1.. If he pushes hard enough will Triumph replace the sender?
   2.. Assuming no to number one how easy is it to fix for himself?  How 
much will the part cost.
Any help would be appreciated.
