good explanation, but there's one error

Ross (a Triumph rep in case you didn't notice) states: "Also some people say
that the bike runs erratic for no reason, unless there is a fault this is
almost certainly down to using the kill switch and the
simple cure is to turn the engine off (With the ignition switch) for a
seconds then turn it on and hit the starter and let the ECM do the rest for
you."

I can assure you that there have been reports of 'erratic' engine running
that were *not* caused by using the kill switch that were *definitely* cured
by cycling the ignition switch off and then back on before starting. No ECM
faults ever seem to get logged for this, and the symptoms are rare enough
that dealers don't usually witness them (so they're reluctant to do
anything).

I am one of the people that have had this problem. The good news is that it
seems to occur on new bikes only and usually goes away on it's own. There
was a suggestion that this symptom can be caused by a sticky Idle Control
Valve (apparently fairly common on new bikes), but I haven't heard that
anyone has had to have it replaced. So I guess this qualifies as the
'fault' that Ross suggests, but there's really nothing to do except to be
patient if you are powering the bike down properly . . . as I *always* do.

Neil
