You'll have a hard time finding anyone who will recommend the VFR over 
the ST. (OK, OK, at least on this list. :-) Both are great bikes, but 
the ST usually edges out the VFR in most spec sheet comparisons. Check 
out the magazine reviews on the list's web site 
<http://www.triumphnet.com/st/>. In addition to beating the VFR on the 
specs, the ST has optional waterproof, hard luggage that looks good. The 
VFR does not.

If your emphasis is on power and top speed, you might want to look at 
the Suzuki Hayabusa, Honda CBR1100XX, or Kawasaki ZX-12R. All three blow 
away the Sprint ST (and the VFR). Although I've never ridden any of 
these bikes, I've heard others say that they're fairly comfortable for 
some short touring (day or weekend trips).
