[ST] SOS--Help diagnosing why my brakes don't work!

I installed the GenMar risers on my 1999 ST and since I had to replace the
front brake cable, I also took the time to install new front pads and a new
braided cross-over cable.

After several false starts (mostly trying out different crush washers until
I found a set that didn't weep brake fluid), I finally got the whole system
put back together.

Thinking all was well, I fired her up last night to check things out and
experienced what felt like catastrophic brake failure!

After playing around in the garage, I've been able to replicate the
following symptoms:

1. Brakes work 100% when pulling in front brake lever at "regular speed"
2. Slow pulling on the lever allows for the lever to completely be pulled
in, without any hydraulic pressure being felt!
3. Same symptom can sometimes happen when the bike is jolted, such as when
coming off the center stand, even if pulling the lever in at normal speed.

I can't see fluid leaking anywhere, the reservoir seems to be intact, and I
re-bled the brakes tonight; still same symptoms.

If anyone on the list has suffered these symptoms and lived to tell the
tale, please advise....
