[ST] results of dr. appt.

Just a quick note before a long weekend of drugs and rock n' roll.

Went to the doctor today.  He is an orthopedic surgeon and sports injury
specialist, perfect for what I have.  He identified a small, non-displaced
fracture at the base of my left index finger, but that doesn't explain the
lack of mobility and sensation in my thumb.  He is hoping for the best but
treating it as if it's the worst - a scaphoid fracture.  We need to wait for
another three weeks to allow any soft tissue injury to heal before he is
willing to make any determination.  In the meanwhile, I am in a short arm
cast with the thumb immobilized.  It's blue like my bike and truck.

If the unfortunate worst has happened and it is a scaphoid fracture, the
doctor has informed me that I can expect surgery and at least one to one and
a half years of recovery and rehab.  I have not had a chat with Jewel yet, I
don't want her to know anything until I can tell her the full story.  She'll
have to be "winterized" for a long time and I really am not looking forward
to having to tell her.  The really crappy thing is that my other two hobbies
(woodworking and scuba diving) will also be on hold for a while.  Maybe I'll
take up bungy jumping or sky diving.
