V-twin cruisers only make up a majority of the market in the States, everywhere else they are in the minority.

You've got a point, Ashley, but crunch some numbers. The U.S. might not be the largest motorcycle market in the world, but it is certainly the most profitable. You have to sell a buttload of 125cc tiddlers to match the profit margin of one big-inch cruiser. Since V-twin cruisers make up the largest segment of the most profitable market in the world, it only follows that if you want to make money selling cruisers, you sell V-twin cruisers.

Triumph could just enlarge its existing triples or build a big-inch four for its new cruiser, but that would be unlikely to sell in much greater numbers than its existing line of Thunderbirds. Even Honda gave up trying to force cruiser buyers to buy multi-cylinder cruisers and hopped on the big-inch V-twin bandwagon with the VTX.

If Triumph is serious about making money, it will give the American cruiser riders what they want. You may not like it, but if you do the math, you'll see the sense of it.

Of course I may be wrong. Triumph may be entering the big-inch cruiser market for reasons other than making large amounts of money.
