This is largely due to the significant weight on your wrists from the lean 
forward position.  Try relaxing your death grip on the bars, this improves 
circulation and helps prevent numbness.  Thats why many choose the risers 
because the seating position change puts more weight to your butt and less to 
the wrists.  Some just get used to it but numb hands are a sign that could 
result in wrist hand damage over the long haul.
